The Right to Know
As a college student, #adulting gets thrown around quite a lot amongst my peers. A large area of ignorance is health care — looking ahead to getting your own health insurance plan, knowing how to pay those bills, what decisions you need to prepare for, even being proactive about meeting regularly with a primary physician. It all comes with #adulting.
One thing people of all ages can do, however, is have a durable power of attorney for health care.
Basically, it appoints all your healthcare decisions to someone you trust, should you be unable to do so yourself.
Ok, so, what does this have to do with PAS?
Actually, lots.
See, this document specifically prohibits physician-assisted suicide and euthanasia. That way you won’t have to worry about someone pulling the plug without your permission.
PAS and euthanasia are only some of the dangers that a durable power of attorney can help avoid. The best way to access such a document is via the Patients Rights Council.
The Patients Rights Council not only provides these health care forms, but offers FREE services from lawyers who have been working in health care law for years.
So if you can’t #adult quite yet, the Patients Rights Council could be a life-saver.
